Our checked baggage arrived damaged, here's what to do

Our checked baggage arrived damaged after a flight, and a few days later, I got compensated.

Here's what to do if it happens to you:

1. Before leaving the airport, head to the baggage assistance desk.

2. Ask to file a PIR (Property Irregularity Report). Very important to do this before leaving the airport!

3. Take photos of the damage and keep your baggage tag.

4. Submit a claim to the airline with the report and photos.

5. Keep your purchase receipt if you have one. They will generally ask for proof of value.

And most important...

Don't spend too much on checked luggage. 😅

You might get compensated, but not necessarily for the full purchase price. Airlines will factor in depreciation, age, and condition when calculating compensation.
